Thanks to special considerations by the Dept. of Motor Vehicles, those of us who have an antique car are able to enjoy a drive without the expense of renewing your tags, annual inspections and emissions, as well as the high cost of regular insurance.
This is a great way to own several cars if one so desires, as the cost of everything is so low it makes owning antique cars a real plus as we are free from meeting state requirements.
However, we have to realize that it doesn't give us the license to be irresponsible in that we fail to make sure that what normal inspections require of our cars to be safe is not over looked.
As we drive the car, we have to assume that because of age and condition, we have to be prepared for any emergency as a result of a safety component failing, because we may have not realized the problem existed before one did an inspection for safety.
Even if at the moment of inspection all seemed alright. It's showing signs of possible failure down the road.
